Jene Luciani
Fashion journalist, stylist and regular correspondent on NBC’s TODAY, the Style Network, and Martha Stewart Living Radio
Throughout my 12-year career in the ever-changing-worlds of TV, journalism, and fashion, I’ve had so many different experiences and many, many “firsts.” I remember, my first job search ever (where I hit every news station in Albany, NY, in person to drop off my resume – I even snuck in through the back door of one news station on a holiday and marched right up to the assignment desk to drop off my resume!); the first time I ever saw my name in the credits as a producer, and a few years later, my name in a byline of my first print magazine article; my first time on live national TV in front of 5 million people seated next to Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb (a dream come true!); seeing my first book on store shelves (another dream come true!); the first celebrity I ever interviewed (Bette Midler!) as well as the first fashion designer (Michael Kors!); AND meeting Oprah, showing her my book, The Bra Book, and having her tell me she was glad I wrote it because it’s “so important for women.”
But, perhaps my most memorable “first” happened recently when I was cast for a Bravo TV show called “Mad Fashion,” starring designer Chris March. He made me a dress completely constructed out of 200 bras (!!) — a “first” of its kind EVER — and I hosted a red carpet event wearing the dress. I was even photographed wearing it, which landed me in the “worst dressed” pages of Star magazine next to Chloe Sevigny…and prompted Cosmopolitan to call me one of the “worst dressed celebs of the year!”
I don’t think anyone understood it was made out of bras (and it was admittedly kind of wacky looking) but it was so cool and fun to wear — and I’d do it all over again! I had such a great experience throughout the whole process of shooting the show and all the crazy things that happened along the way. Oh yes, and I got to walk the red carpet for the show’s premiere with Bravo’s Andy Cohen himself. (I whispered in his ear that I could cross that off my bucket list!)

What an inspiring story by a real woman with such great spunk! Publicity good or bad is still publicity, which in Jene Luciani’s case obviously turned out favorably after all was said and done!
This has to be one of the most adorable stories I have ever heard! I’m definitely sharing this one with my friends
Because of her I WOULD wear a dress made of bras! haha I’m inspired
Love that she could laugh at herself and be bold! You go Jene!
i love that dress!
