We’re all about indulging in the small stuff, whether it’s your morning latte or a new tube of lipstick. But what about getting your hair did? Alli Webb — founder of Drybar, the revolutionary “blow-dry only” salon — says that tame tresses are a solid investment for work and play.

Like all good ideas, the idea for Drybar came as a result of personal experience (and necessity). I am a curly haired girl who was always on the search for great blowouts. In fact, that’s what led me to become a professional stylist myself. Yet I’ve always preferred to have someone else blow dry my hair — no matter how good you are, you simply can’t do it as well as someone else!

I had always longed for a fun and aesthetically pleasing place to go for a great blowout at a reasonable price. But, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) nothing existed but two bad options: either a dreary discount salon or paying $50 and up at a traditional salon. So I decided to build my own place — and Drybar was born.

When I set out to open my first shop in Brentwood, CA, I started with two goals:  1) to be obsessively focused on providing an unparalleled, customer-focused experience of proving an affordable luxury and 2) I wanted Drybar to look, feel (and smell) nothing like a traditional hair salon! I wanted to create a fun, social place to hang out, watch a chick flick, and charge your iPhone — all while getting traffic-stopping hair.
In the spirit of the bar theme, all of our hairstyles are named after cocktails. There is the “Cosmo,” with lots of loose curls, which is a great way to bring a little va-va-voom to a simple outfit or night out on the town. Then there’s the “Straight Up,” our signature blowout, which is a basic blowout with a hint of bend and body, perfect for a day at the office or a work event. I am personally usually wearing a “Mai Tai,” our messy, beachy look. This style is a little out of the box, but is a fun, trendy style that you really can’t go wrong with (unlike splurging on some other trends).
For $35 dollars ($40 on the East Coast), blow-outs are a small indulgence that will go a very long way. They will pay dividends in providing you with that polished, professional look whether at work or at play. A great blowout can turn your whole day around and give you a whole new sense of confidence you never knew you had!
