Summer is (finally) here, which means it’s time to par-tay! Hosting a fab blowout doesn’t mean you have to blowout your budget. Just remember: it’s all in the (inexpensive) details, and a little bit of thought can go a long way in making your reasonable party ritzy!
Etsy is your best friend. We are crazy about these chic Geronimo balloons, but we’re not crazy about their super expensive price tag. Luckily, you can find this same look for less on Etsy. These fabulous oversized balloons are sure to make a statement in any space—your apartment, a rooftop, or even a dark bar. They also make great photo props for the hundreds of Facebook pics and instagr.ams we know you”ll be taking. In fact, Etsy is the perfect place to find all kinds of stunning party décor—garland, favors, paper goods, you name it—on the cheap.
It’s all in the details. You don’t have to go overboard with a party theme and matching decorations, but adding small, inexpensive touches like paper straws or a decorative garland will make your gathering appear put together. Keep the big stuff neutral—table cloths, streamers, serving platters—and then pick five to seven small items like personalized napkins, fun paper plates, or a printed banner to spice it all up. We love whimsical details like a little confetti sprinkled in the bottom of your guest’s glasses or plastic neon shades to dance in to add some silliness to your soiree.
Skip the paper. In this digital age, there’s no better way to spread the word about your party than using the web. Plus, you don’t need us to tell you which option is better for the environment. So skip the costly, cumbersome paper invitations and turn to Paperless Post or Punchbowl. Not only are these e-vites creative and easy to design, but best of all, they are FREE. You’ll be saving a whole lot of cash and a bunch of trees by going the paperless route. Plus, with all the money you save on invitations, you can invest more in decorations or food/drinks to make your party rock.
Go for cheap eats. Every great party needs a solid menu, but you don’t have to spend a fortune on fancy catering. Enlist a few close friends to bring some different dishes. Or better yet, turn your gathering into a potluck! Ask everyone to bring their favorite family dish; everyone will feel at home, and these family favorites are sure to spark conversation. If that’s not for you, think about offering a bunch of light bites instead of a full entree. Check out Trader Joe’s for cheap, yet delicious hors d’oeurves. Some of our favorites are the chicken parmesan lollipops, stuffed mushroom caps, and feta and caramelized onion bites. The best part? No one will suspect that these goodies are premade from the grocery store, leaving you with all of the hostess-with-the-mostest credit.
Leave a sweet taste in their mouths. What better way to save money and leave your guests with a lasting impression than by combining dessert and party favors in one package? Send your guests home with a sweet memory of your party. Recycle mason jars by filling them with the ingredients for delicious dessert recipes. Or, you could bake your mom’s famous chocolate chip cookies and slip them into cellophane CD envelopes and tie them up with a ribbon. These party favors are truly the trifecta: inexpensive, thoughtful, and delicious.
